How does a city come together?
Where activity gathers, how it changes across a week and how different places contribute to local life.
What makes a connection possible?
How shared interests, places and experiences can help people find each other. This is a research direction, not a promise to infer private relationships.
What changes the pattern?
How an event, a new venue or a change in an area affects the activity around it.
What makes the information useful?
Whether an insight helps someone make a better choice, and how using that insight changes the city in turn.
From a signal
to an answer.
Check the source
Understand how the information was collected, how recent it is and what is missing.
Establish the context
A Saturday is different from a Tuesday. A result needs a sensible comparison across time, place and conditions.
Test the explanation
A pattern is a starting point. Look for other explanations before treating a relationship as a cause.
Explain the limits
Separate observed activity, estimates and future possibilities. Publish enough context for a reader to understand what a result supports.
City insights.
Personal choices.
Privacy needs a clear explanation of each use of data. Anonymous city insights do not mean that every part of the Vibe app operates without personal information.
The collective view
The research and venue view concerns patterns across activity: places, groups and time. Our aim is useful insight about a city while protecting the people contributing to it.
Personal app features
Accounts, preferences, social connections and location support personal features. Friend location sharing is a separate choice from a grouped picture of city activity.
Your controls
The privacy policy describes location permissions, profile visibility, access and deletion requests. Check it for the applicable details of collection and use.
Keep asking
If a use of data is unclear, ask us. Explain the feature or information you are concerned about so we can give you a specific answer.
Start with a real question.
We welcome conversations with researchers, communities, venues and public bodies interested in social life and local places.
Tell us what you want to understand and who the answer would help. We can discuss the evidence, access and practical limits relevant to the work.
